Gagarlurlu – Crested Pigeon (Original Artwork by Winston Stokes Jnr)

Hi everyone,

I’m proud to share my latest piece, “Gagarlurlu”, which means Crested Pigeon in my Ngarluma language.

This artwork represents more than just a bird — it speaks to our connection with Country, the land, and the animals that live alongside us. The Gagarlurlu reminds me of the gentle strength and calm presence that exists all around us when we take time to look and listen.

Through this piece, I’ve expressed my cultural identity and pride as a Ngarluma man. Every line and colour holds meaning, representing the beauty and spirit of our Country — from the land to the sky.

Artist’s Reflection:
Creating Gagarlurlu was a way for me to connect deeper to my culture and share the stories and beauty of Ngarluma Country. This piece carries a part of who I am and where I come from.
